Supporting Bats, Biodiversity and Community at Gamrie Gardens

We’re really pleased to share that Gamrie Gardens has received support from Volunteering Matters Action Earth to run a new volunteer-led nature project here on the land.

This small but meaningful grant will help us create safe roosting spaces for bats, adding another layer to the growing network of habitats we’re building across the gardens.

With the help of local volunteers, we’ll be installing handcrafted bat boxes on our geodesic dome which is near our hedgerows, young woodland planting, and developing pond area. These spaces are already becoming rich feeding grounds for wildlife, and this project helps make sure bats have somewhere safe to rest and raise their young nearby.

Bats are an important but often overlooked part of our local ecosystem. Supporting them means supporting natural pest control, healthier biodiversity, and a more balanced environment overall.

Like many things at Gamrie Gardens, this project is about small, practical actions that add up over time - people coming together, learning new skills, and directly improving the land around them.

We’ll be working with a group of volunteers across the summer to bring this to life, and we’re excited to see how it strengthens the wider ecosystem we’re slowly restoring here. If you’re interested in getting involved, please reach out through our contact page.

It’s a good reminder that even modest support, in the right place, can ripple outwards - helping nature recover, and giving people a meaningful way to be part of that process.
