Heritage apple and pear trees re-homed from Udny orchard

Earlier this season, we answered a local call for help to rescue trees from a heritage orchard in the Udny area that was unexpectedly closing.

We went along on a few occasions to help dig and move plants, and came home with some wonderful apple and pear trees that we’ve now been able to re-home at Gamrie Gardens for the community to enjoy.

It felt especially meaningful to be able to play a small part in giving these trees a new home, and in helping preserve some of the value, history, and abundance of a much-loved orchard.

Some of the trees have also been gifted to allotment holders, which feels like a lovely way for the orchard’s legacy to continue spreading out into the wider community.

We’re really grateful to have been able to take part in this effort, and excited to see these trees settle in and grow in their new homes over the years ahead.
